My Metropolis/Gotham.
Even before I met her, I was a fan of Allison Torneros’ work. The first time I remember really taking notice of her work was at Yojie’s in Downtown. I spent most of my dinner just enjoying the vibrant palette and dreamy aesthetic, wondering when I might be able to own real art someday.
Somehow our worlds collided, and now I’m an even bigger fan of Allison’s! She’s a successful creative lady-entrepreneur and so down to earth. I knew I couldn’t miss the opening of her first solo show at Hold Up Art in Little Tokyo. The opening was definitely a night to remember, full of good company, good music, and of course, great art.
The installation itself was curated by the lovely Caitlin Boyd, who happens to be a friend of mine from college and my DTLA neighbor. I was in awe of the incorporation of 3D glasses (like I said, Allison is creative!), the Paint by Word pieces, and most especially #11. I can’t remember what it’s called, but I couldn’t stop looking at it. I practically parked myself in front of it for a bit. I might have to go back and look at it again, just to get my fill.
The show runs until January 5th, 2012.
